Cardi B wants fans to be toWorkOutAgain careful with the criticism.
A little more than a week after welcoming her third baby with estranged husband Offset, the “WAP” rapper is responding to commentary after she shared a video of herself doing 30 minutes of cardio on a Stair Master.
“Late night gym session,” she wrote in her initial post. “No heavy lifting, no weight just straight stair master until next week.”
She added as a word of caution, “Remember ladies this is my third baby… with my other 2 babies I was still on bedrest on the first week postpartum.”
Now, Cardi, who shares daughter Kulture, 6, and son Wave, 2, with Offset, has explained why she felt the need to kickstart her gym routine again.
“This is my third baby and postpartum is a little different from my first two,” the 31-year-old replied to a person on X (formerly Twitter) who called out the pressure for women to “bounce back” after having a child. “I’m not doing [heavy] lifting, no muscle straining, squatting none of that… just cardio. Sometimes to avoid postpartum depression you gotta keep your mind busy and for me that’s work and staying active.”
The Grammy winner added that critics “dragged” her for gaining 15 pounds while five months pregnant, adding, “But now yall fake concerned and wanna talk about pressure??? Y’all said I was pregnant to avoid working now that you see I’m still at it it’s something else?? So yeah I’m taking this personal but its FOR ME because either way y’all are gonna have something to say.”
She concluded, “I just was never the type to care about snap back after birth. I don’t know what it is about this time around but I have this burst of energy where I want to do EVERYTHING… It’s like I want to complete all my goals in one day.”
Cardi and Offset welcomed their daughter on Sept. 7, sharing behind-the-scenes footage from her birth, while opting not to share images of the baby's face or her name.
The “Bongos” rapper announced her pregnancy—just hours after filing for a divorce from the 32-year-old rapper—on Aug. 1 in a baby bump Instagram post captioned, "With every ending comes a new beginning! I am so grateful to have shared this season with you, you have brought me more love, more life and most of all renewed my power! Reminded me that I can have it all!"
